1 DECEMBER, DAY OF THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN – THE LEADER OF THE NATION (ELBASY).
Today, 1 December, the Republic of Kazakhstan celebrates its significant national holiday – the Day of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation (Elbasy).
This holiday, was established in recognition of Nursultan Nazarbayev’s achievements, and has been commemorated annually since 2012. The day marks the date in 1991, when
His Excellency was elected by popular vote in the country’s first-ever presidential election.
Twenty-nine years later, the day also has historical significance.
Mr. Nazarbayev was the president of independent Kazakhstan between 1991-2019.
Elbasy continues to play a significant role in the country’s political and economic life. He travels throughout the world, representing the nation and maintains contact with foreign leaders.
Currently he holds the positions of the Chairman of the Security Council and Chairman of the ruling party “Nur Otan” (lit. Radiant Fatherland), Chairman of the assembly of People of Kazakhstan, as well as other honorary posts in the academia and social establishments.
To commemorate the important date, the First President’s television and radio complex released a news documentary film entitled, ‘Nazarbayaev’s Factor’ featuring his key international initiatives, while utilizing rare archive photos from Mr. Nazarbayev’s years in office. It also presents the way foreign leaders have perceived him and his role in the country.
Under the leadership of H.E. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kazakhstan has carried out successful political and socio-economic reforms.
Kazakhstan has become a modern, democratic, and developed state, one of the 50 most competitive countries in the world. The historic role of Elbasy in strengthening international peace and security, creating confidence-building measures in Asia and Europe, preventing conflicts and making peace, as well as His Excellency’s contribution to the process of global nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation as internationally-recognized CTBTO’s Champion of a Nuclear Test Free World for a Nuclear Weapons Free World can hardly be overestimated.
The importance of the Nazarbayev’s policy of harmonizing inter-ethnic and inter-religious relations, tolerance and harmony in society was highly valued and repeatedly emphasized by many leaders of the world.
The international initiatives of Elbasy include nuclear disarmament, counterterrorism, and inter-civilizational dialogue, which made a significant contribution to the UN pillar of maintaining international peace and security.
Under the wise leadership of H.E. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kazakhstan has established relations of strategic and expanded partnership with Russia, China, USA, EU, countries of the Islamic world and friendly relations with all countries of the planet.
