International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister, Mr.Alvin Botes received the credentials of the recently appointed United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) Regional Director, Mr. Menghestab Haile.
Mr. Haile, a British national of Ethiopian origin, has extensive experience in the area of food and nutrition security and related fields.
He has served in various leadership positions including WFP Deputy Country Director, as well as Representative and Country Director in Egypt.
Mr. Haile also previously held the following positions:
– Deputy Director: WFP Africa (Ethiopia)
– Senior Policy Advisor to the Deputy Executive Director of Hunger Solutions (WFP Headquarters)
– Regional Officer: Eastern Africa Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)
– Civil Servant (Ethiopia)
– Research Scientist (UK)
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Alvin Botes reiterated to Mr. Menghestab Haile, South Africa’s commitment towards hosting the UN Humanitarian Response Depot and that SA looks forward to strengthening collaboration towards achieving this goal.
