21 September 2022, marked the 20th Anniversary of the unanimous adoption by United Nations member states of the Resolution establishing an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on the United Nations International Day of Peace, fixing the day in the global calendar on 21 September.
The 2022 theme for the International Day of Peace is “End racism. Build peace.” We invite you to join the efforts of the United Nations as we work towards a world free of racism and racial discrimination. Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September.
The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. But achieving true peace entails much more than laying down arms. It requires the building of societies where all members feel that they can flourish. It involves creating a world in which people are treated equally, regardless of their race. “Racism continues to poison institutions, social structures, and everyday life in every society.
It continues to be a driver of persistent inequality. And it continues to deny people their fundamental human rights. It destabilizes societies, undermines democracies, erodes the legitimacy of governments, and… the linkages between racism and gender inequality are unmistakable.” We are all human beings, therefore, we are thinking and feeling people, who have great goals for their future, want to have a full life and enjoy the world around us.
However, there is a certain group of people who are inclined to have racist beliefs about others, simply because their appearance, ethnicity or origin is different from what one would expect. For this reason, below we will go through several phrases against racism that invite us to reflect and fight against this form of discrimination and unfair behavior.
Peace is not just the absence of war; As long as there is poverty, racism, discrimination and exclusion, it will be difficult for us to achieve a world of peace. No one is born hating another person because of the color of their skin, or their background, or their religion. Build bridges, not walls! Happy International Day of Peace! Peace can only come if there is equality! Respect everyone, love everyone!
