MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS TO HOST THE 2022 BOTSWANA DIPLOMATIC HEADS OF MISSION CONSULTATIVE FORUM, GABORONE, 9TH-19TH MAY 2022

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform that it will host the Botswana Diplomatic Heads of Mission Consultative Forum from 9th – 19th May 2022, in Gaborone. The Forum, which will be held under the theme, “Strategically Positioning Botswana, Post COVID-19 Pandemic”, will bring together Botswana Envoys, the Ministry’s senior management, leaders in government, private sector and international organisations.

The Heads of Mission Consultative Forum, will provide Botswana Envoys with an opportunity to collectively deliberate on issues of national interest including the country’s economic wellbeing and ongoing post-COVID-19 economic recovery initiatives, as well as, the National Transformation Strategy and Reset Agenda.

The Envoys will also engage with public and private sectors to exchange views on ways in which Botswana Missions can advance the country’s development agenda through cooperation and strategic partnerships in areas such as trade, foreign direct investment, social development and tourism promotion. Furthermore, the Envoys will engage with their counterparts accredited to Botswana on areas of mutual interest.

During the Forum, His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, and Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will address Botswana Envoys on the country’s national interests, foreign policy objectives as well as Botswana’s contribution to various global agendas on the international platform. The Forum will also provide a platform for His Excellency the President, and Honourable Dr. Kwape to engage with foreign Envoys accredited to Botswana.

Moreover, as part of the Forum’s programme, Botswana Envoys will undertake a Working Visit to Kasane, for further engagement on the country’s key national projects such as the Kazungula Bridge and the Pandamatenga Agricultural projects.

As part of the Ministry’s youth engagement and empowerment initiative, the Envoys are also expected to have dialogue sessions with youth groups on issues of diplomacy and international relations.
