PRESIDENT OF MALAWI, ADDRESSES THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM

President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, has addressed the World Economic Forum on the need and urgency for investments in the health systems of Malawi and other nations in the Global South as a mechanism for safeguarding the global economy and avoiding a repeat of the disruptions caused by Covid-19.

Specifically, the President called for support for the Global Fund’s 7th Replenishment, to sustain the ongoing work the Fund is doing to strengthen health systems in Malawi and sustain the gains the country is registering in the fight against Malaria and HIV/AIDS.

His Excellency Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, attended the opening session of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

During the session, Swiss President Ignazio Cassis and WEF Founder Klaus Schwab outlined the impact the war in Eastern Europe is having on all parts of the global economy, requiring world leaders to come together and chart an equitable recovery path that leaves no region behind.

The Keynote address was delivered by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, who encouraged the delegates to use their time together in Davos to come up with practical solutions for the economic hardships the war has compounded worldwide.
