South Africa and Kazakhstan established full diplomatic relations on 5 March 1992. The resident South African Embassy was first established in December 2003 in Almaty; but in 2008, the Embassy relocated to Astana, thereafter Nur-Sultan in 2019. In December 2013, Kazakhstan opened a residential Embassy in Pretoria.
South Africa’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan is H.E Ms KST Matthews, and H.E Mr Kanat Tumysh has been Ambassador to South Africa since 12 July 2019.
South African-Kazakh relations are strong and have been growing steadily since 1992, with focus on the promotion of cooperation in the economic, political, military-technical, humanitarian areas, among many others.
